Dear Jodie,
I wish there 1) ................ (be) an easier way for me to tell you this, but I'm in hospital! But don't worry, if all goes well, I 2) ................ (go) home at the end of the week.
Unfortunately, I broke my arm. It's my fault, really! If I 3) ................ (not/try) to put up the curtains myself, I wouldn't have fallen off the ladder. If only I 4) ................ (wait) for Tom to come home! If Tom had been there, he 5) ................ (hold) the ladder, and I wouldn't be in hospital now. Actually, it's not so bad, but if I didn't have a TV in my room, I 6) ................ (die) of boredom! Tom comes every day after work and brings flowers. If only you 7) ................ (be) here to see my room; it's like a florist's!
Anyway, give my love to your family. I'll come and visit you as soon as I'm feeling better, unless I 8) ................ (have) another careless little accident, that is!
Love, Jane
