Fill in the sentences with was/wasn't, were/weren't.

Решение

Глагол to be в прошедшем времени (Past Simple) имеет две формы: was (I, he, she, it) и were (you, we, they). Вопрос образуется перестановкой: глагол ставим перед подлежащим, отрицание — wasn't / weren't.

Вопрос к «you» — берём were и ставим в начало: «Were you at the doctor's yesterday?» («Ты вчера был у врача?»). Ответ с «I» — форма was; ответ «No», значит отрицание: «I wasn't at the hospital» («Нет, я не был — я был в больнице»).
Вопрос «Where ... John last night?» — подлежащее John (= he), значит was: «Where was John last night?». Ответ: «He was at Mary's house» («Он был дома у Мэри») — это утверждение, поэтому was без not.
«they» требует were: «Were they happy ...?». В кратком ответе «Yes, Tina was» (Тина была счастлива: Tina = she → was), «but John wasn't» (а Джон — нет: John = he → wasn't).
