Рассказ идёт о прошлом («One day… so some days later…»), поэтому почти все глаголы стоят в Past Simple (простое прошедшее время). Правильные глаголы получают -ed, неправильные имеют особую форму (их надо знать).
- wake — неправильный глагол, wake → woke (I woke up early — «я рано проснулся»).
- be/not — Jenny в единственном числе, прошедшее время: was + not → wasn't («Дженни не было в постели»).
- find → found (неправильный глагол): «я нашёл её за столом».
- have → had: «в руке у неё была красная ручка».
- Диалог идёт в тот момент, когда Джон видит Дженни за столом: действие происходит прямо сейчас — Present Continuous: am/is/are + глагол с -ing. С you — are you doing: «Дженни, что ты делаешь?»
- see → saw: «я увидел объявление».
- После let's глагол стоит без to и без изменений: let's get («давай заведём собаку»).
- drive → drove: «мы поехали по адресу».
- come → came: «женщина подошла к двери».
- there + be в прошедшем: собака одна (a Labrador) — was (there was a Labrador — «там была собака»).
- take → took: «женщина отвела нас в комнату».
- puppies — много (nine puppies), множественное число — were (there were nine puppies).
- like + -ed → liked: «щенок очень полюбил нас».
- climb + -ed → climbed: «он вскарабкался по нашим рубашкам».
- look + -ed → looked: «и посмотрел нам в глаза».
- Дженни говорит о щенке сейчас, это факт настоящего: that is our puppy («это наш щенок»).
- laugh + -ed → laughed («засмеялась» — действие рассказа, прошедшее).
- Просьба, приказ — повелительное наклонение, глагол без изменений: Come back for him («приходите за ним»).
- say → said («сказала женщина»).
- Факт о щенке (по словам женщины): he is eight weeks old — «ему восемь недель» (в Present Simple, he → is).
- Речь о будущем («then» — тогда, через три недели). Можно сказать can take («вы сможете забрать его») — модальный глагол can + глагол без to.
- be/not — вопрос с отрицанием, настоящее время, it → Isn't it wonderful? («Разве это не чудесно?»)
- get → got: «мы получили (завели) нашу собаку» — прошедшее время.
