You are going to give a talk about life in space. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes. Remember to say:
- how lack of gravity affects life in space
- what things astronauts do in their free time
- whether you would like to live in space or not
You have to talk continuously.
План выступления:
Hello everyone! Today I would like to tell you about life in space.
First of all, lack of gravity changes everything for astronauts. Everything floats: food, water, tools and even people. Astronauts have to attach themselves to their beds when they sleep, otherwise they would drift around the station. They can't simply drink from a glass, so they drink from special bags with straws. Washing is also difficult because water does not flow down, so they use wet towels and special soap. Lack of gravity is bad for the body too: muscles and bones become weaker, so astronauts must exercise for about two hours every day.
Secondly, astronauts do not work all the time. In their free time they read books, watch films and send emails to their families and friends on Earth. They also listen to music and talk to each other. But one of their favourite activities is photography. Most of all, they like to look out of the window and take pictures of Earth, their real home.
Finally, would I like to live in space? I think I would not like to live there for a long time. It must be very interesting to see Earth from above and to feel weightless, but I would miss my family, my friends, fresh air and nature. However, I would be happy to visit a space station for a short time. It would be an unforgettable adventure.
Thank you for listening!
Portfolio: It's the year 3050 and a group of teens who were born on a space station are coming to visit Earth. Write a leaflet giving instructions about how to eat, sleep, wash, exercise, do chores and spend free time in a place with gravity.
План листовки: заголовок; затем пять–шесть коротких блоков с советами (еда, сон, умывание, зарядка/спорт, домашние дела, свободное время) в повелительном наклонении; в конце — дружеское пожелание.
Welcome to Earth! A Guide for Visitors from Space
Life with gravity is different from life on a space station. Here are some simple instructions to help you.
Eating
- When eating, your food doesn't float away, so don't try to catch it in the air!
- Use a plate, a fork and a spoon, and sit at the table.
- Drink from a glass. Be careful: if you tip it, the water will fall down and make a mess.
Sleeping
- You don't need to tie yourself to the bed. Just lie down on a mattress and put your head on a pillow.
- Sleep in a bed, not on the ceiling or on the wall!
Washing
- Water flows down here, so you can take a shower or a bath. It's much easier than using wet towels.
- Stand in the shower and let the water fall on you. Don't forget to turn it off afterwards!
Exercising
- Your muscles will have to work harder because of gravity, so start slowly.
- Go for a walk, ride a bike or play football outside. Don't jump too high: you will come down fast!
Doing chores
- Heavy things really are heavy here, so ask for help when you carry them.
- Put things on the shelf or in the cupboard, otherwise they will fall on the floor.
- Sweep the floor, wash the dishes and water the plants.
Spending free time
- Go to the park, swim in the sea or climb a hill.
- Look up at the sky: you can see the stars from the ground, just like from the station.
- Meet new friends and enjoy your time on our planet!
Have a great time on Earth!
