Speaking exercises
-
Discuss with a partner a time when you experienced a conflict within your family or among friends. How was the conflict resolved? Could it have been prevented?
-
Do you believe compromise is an effective way to resolve conflicts? Why or why not? Share an example from your own experiences where compromise played a role in resolving a conflict.
-
Have you ever sought outside help, such as mediation or counseling, to resolve a conflict? How did this third party intervention impact the outcome of the conflict? Would you recommend this approach to others facing similar conflicts?
Для связности используй слова-связки: firstly, however, as a result, in my opinion. Для рассказа о прошлом применяй Past Simple (we argued, we agreed).

Last year I had a conflict with my best friend. We argued because I forgot to keep his secret and told it to another classmate. He was very upset and stopped talking to me for a week. Finally, I apologized sincerely and explained that I hadn't wanted to hurt him. We talked calmly and he forgave me. I think the conflict could have been prevented if I had been more careful and respectful of his trust.

Yes, I believe compromise is an effective way to resolve conflicts, because both sides get something and nobody feels like a loser. It also keeps relationships strong. For example, my brother and I once argued about the computer, because we both wanted to use it in the evening. In the end we agreed to take turns: he plays for an hour, then I do my homework on it. Now we don't fight about it any more.

Yes, once. There was a serious conflict between two students in my class, and our school psychologist helped us to solve it. She listened to both sides and helped us understand each other's feelings. Thanks to her, we found a solution and became friendlier. I would definitely recommend this approach to others, because a neutral person can see the situation from the outside and suggest a fair way out.
