In many towns there are public ceremonies and concerts. Families look at old photographs and tell children what happened during the war. Some people write down these family stories so that younger generations can learn them. Others visit grandparents and listen to their memories. At school, pupils may prepare short talks about people from their own town. These talks help us understand that history is connected with real families. We also keep a minute of silence to honour the dead. For me, Victory Day is both a sad and a hopeful day. It reminds us to value peace and to care for one another. I think the best way to show respect is to remember these stories and to help people around us today.
