- The cake — один предмет; вопрос начинаем с Was.
- Larry and Lulu — двое, поэтому were.
- Mum and Dad — двое, поэтому were not.
- Chuckles — один персонаж, поэтому was.
- Larry and Paco — двое; вопрос начинаем с Were. Слова yesterday, last night и an hour ago показывают, что речь о прошлом.
